LISBON (Reuters) - A baby seal was found Friday near a beach south of Lisbon, after swimming thousands of miles from the North Atlantic in search of food.
"The seal of two months had to jump into the ocean somewhere in Canada or Greenland in search of food and lost," said Elio Vicente, who is treating the little seal in Zoomarine, a marine theme park in southern Portugal.
The hooded seal, named after his long, elastic nasal cavity, suffered minor injuries during the journey and should be returned to the cold North Atlantic waters as soon as he recovers, "said Vicente.
Another baby seal was spotted drifting in the Portuguese islands of the Azores but has not yet been captured. |
